Day 1: Channel Islands to Reykjavik and Northern Lights Tour

Jersey clients will meet their Bontour representative at Jersey Airport (departure 07:05 with British Airways) and Guernsey clients will join with the whole group at Gatwick Airport (depart Guernsey 08:30 with Aurigny). Your Iceland Air flight to Reykjavik will depart from Gatwick North Terminal at 12:55. On arrival to Reykjavik’s Keflavik Airport at 15:00 you will have a short 45 minute transfer by private coach to the 4* Radisson Blu Saga Hotel. This evening you will enjoy the hotel’s varied buffet followed by the magical Northern Light’s Tour. You will be picked up by private coach from the hotel. The tour is between 2.5 – 5 hours as you search for the shy and beautiful Northern Lights. Times to be confirmed dependent on weather.

    Northern Lights

Watch the amazing colours of the Northern Lights dance across the Artic Sky in this unforgettable experience. The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are most frequently seen around the North Pole and Iceland lies within this active region meaning that the Northern lights are potentially visible from everywhere in Iceland. Viewing conditions for the Northern Lights are best between September and April. Crisp cold evenings with skies clear enough to see stars are usually a good indicator for auroral activity.

Day 2: The Golden Circle (approx. 8 hours)

After breakfast at the hotel, we start the day by visiting the famous Thingvellir National Park with your Bontour Escort and experienced local guide who will bring the area to life. The National Park is a UNESCO world heritage site combining natural wonders and serving as the place where Iceland’s ancient Viking parliament was established in 930 AD. The landscape is beautifully rugged and a walk into Almannagjá’s rift, with its towering wall, and a stroll to see Thingvallavatn Lake are a photographer’s paradise.

The adventure then takes you to the Geysir geothermal area, walking around you can feel the power underneath the earth’s surface. You will be amazed by the phenomenal Geysir hot springs shooting up to 30 metres into the air.

    Geysir

After a fascinating morning there will be a lunch stop where you will have time at leisure to enjoy the local cuisine.

After lunch you will witness the roar of the magnificent and iconic two tier waterfall, Gullfoss, falling some 32 metres. Gullfoss means 'golden falls' as the cascading glacial waters turn golden in the sunlight before making their escape down the valley.

At the end of the day you will return to the hotel and can enjoy dinner at leisure in one of the hotel’s restaurants or head into the centre of Reykjavik 10 minutes’ walk away.

Day 3: The Blue Lagoon and the Reykjanes Peninsula (approx. 6 hours)

Following breakfast at the hotel you head out for another unforgettable day with your Bontour Escort and experienced local guide to the Reykjanes Peninsula. Here the diverse volcanic and geothermal activity makes it a unique and mystical landscape. The Eurasian and North American tectonic plates are continuously drifting apart causing linear fractures which are a remarkable sight in the autumn light.

Next you will drive through the captivating landscape to the mesmerising Lake Kleifarvatn; the largest lake in the Reykjanes peninsular. Surrounded by black sand, the lake looks like a blue gem in this rugged environment.

    Lake Kleifarvatn

After you can walk along set paths in the sulphurous Seltun geothermal area where boiling water emerges from the ground and you can smell the foul mood of mother earth’s geological tantrums.

In the afternoon you will arrive at the infamous Blue Lagoon; a natural geothermal spa surrounded by lava fields and black sandy beaches. The high natural levels of silica and minerals give the Lagoon its famous rich blue colour.

Here you have 2 hours to simply enjoy the magnificence of nature bathing in the comfort of the warm mineral-rich lagoon which is one of the top wonders of the world according to National Geographic. There is also an indoor geothermal pool, winter garden and shops. You can enjoy lunch at Restaurant LAVA which has been built into the lava field. Entrance to the Blue Lagoon, use of a towel, a drink of your choice and a self-applied algae mask are all included.

At the end of the day you will return to the hotel and can enjoy dinner at leisure in one of the hotel’s restaurants or head into the centre of Reykjavik 10 minutes’ walk away.

Day 4: Day at leisure in Reykjavik and optional Whale Watching Tour

Enjoy breakfast at leisure and then you have the option to simply enjoy the hotel’s facilities or explore Iceland’s wonderful capital city, Reykjavik. Shop in the many independent boutiques of the old town centre and visit some of the many historical sites and museums that this fascinating little capital has to offer; the Parliament, Cathedral, harbour, the National Museum and the city‘s main landmark, Hallgrímskirkja.

    Reykjavik

Optional additional Tour: Whale Watching, £119 per person (3 hours)

Should you want to wonder even more at the Icelandic nature you have the option of observing some of the planet’s largest animals in their natural habitat. You will be picked up from the hotel and taken to the harbour where you sail to Faxaflói bay with beautiful seascapes and a refreshing ocean breeze - please bring warm clothing. In the bay you can see marine life playing in the sparkling waters from whales and dolphins to beautiful seabirds like the Puffins, Arctic Terns and Gannets. The most common sightings include dolphins and humpback whales and, on rarer occasions, minke whales and killer whales. The spacious boats are especially built for whale watching and offer several viewing platforms including an indoor viewing area with large windows. To keep you warm and comfortable there are warm overalls on board and an on-board cafe selling hot drinks and light refreshments.

After the tour you can explore the Whale Exhibition Centre to find out more about the mysteries of the ocean. Situated in an old Capelin-fishing vessel “Fífill,” the exhibition introduced you to local whales and sea birds. Entrance to the museum is included in the tour.

Optional additional Tour: Reykjavik Sightseeing Tour, £59 per person (2.5 hours)
