Day 1: Channel Islands to Cornwall

Guernsey clients will travel inter-island with Blue Islands departing 08:10 and arriving in Jersey at 08:30 where they will be met in arrivals by our Bontour Tour Manager and escorted to the check-in area. Here you will meet your fellow travellers from Jersey and check-in for our 09:50 departure direct to Newquay.

On arrival in Cornwall at 10:50 we will be collected by a comfortable private coach and begin our adventure immediately with a visit to the famous Lost Gardens of Heligan. Having been abandoned by their dedicated team of gardeners at the outbreak of WWI, these mysterious gardens lay unloved and untouched for over 75 years before a chance discovery in 1990 led to a spectacular restoration project which still continues today.

Today the 200 acres that make up Heligan are a veritable paradise for plant lovers, explorers, wildlife enthusiasts and romantics. From under a blanket of brambles have sprung intricate walled vegetable gardens, rainbow hued wildflower meadows and the UK’s only outdoor ‘jungle’ where pathways and rope bridges wind between an exotic palette of plants brought back to Cornwall from across the world.

After feasting our senses at Heligan we will be transferred by coach to the welcoming St. Ives Bay Hotel where we will have a chance to settle in before enjoying a welcome dinner together as a group.

    Day 2: The Eden Project

From gardens rich in history, to those of the future. Today, after enjoying a hearty breakfast at our hotel, we will visit the famous Eden Project, dubbed by some as the Eighth Wonder of the World.

The Rainforest Biome is the world’s largest greenhouse and home to tropical plants, misty pathways and crashing waterfalls that make it easy to believe you’ve been transported to the jungles of Asia or south America. Meanwhile in the Mediterranean Biome visitors can wander through fragrant landscapes reminiscent of Spanish citrus orchards, Californian olive groves and South African wineries.

    The Eden Project

More than just a huge garden, the Eden Project aims above all to educate, and provides a gateway into understanding the relationship between plants and people, a lesson into where many of our everyday products originate from, and an insight into the dependence of our species on plant life.

With so much to learn and explore, we will spend the majority of our day at the Eden Project, providing everyone with time to explore the impressive indoor and outdoor gardens, world class art and sculpture, and stop for lunch or a Cornish ice cream at one of a tempting choice of outlets.

After a fascinating day we will return to our hotel in St. Ives where the rest of the day and evening is at leisure. If you prefer to have dinner in the hotel we recommend booking a table in advance, otherwise our Tour Manager or the hotel reception can provide advice on places to eat in the area.

Day 3: Tintagel Castle & Port Isaac

Following another filling breakfast at the hotel we will head out for another unforgettable day with our Bontour Tour Manager, collected by coach for transfer to the supposed birthplace of legendary King Arthur, Tintagel Castle where we will immerse ourselves in the myths and mystery of this iconic stronghold.

With a breath-taking rugged backdrop, Tintagel Castle is located on its own atmospheric island peninsula and is accessed by a newly installed suspension bridge, providing spectacular views from high above the rock-strewn water below. Explore the remains of the 13th century castle and learn all about its long and colourful history, while keeping your eyes peeled for the abundant local wildlife including seabirds taking shelter among the rocks and seals splashing in the waves below.

    Port Isaac

Once we have had our fill of myth and legend, we will be transferred by coach to the pretty fishing village of Port Isaac, most famous recently as the picturesque setting for ITV’s Doc Martin. Here we will have some free time to explore the narrow winding and often vertiginous streets lined with 18th and 19th century cottages.

At the end of the day we will once again return to St. Ives and spend the remainder of the day and evening at leisure.

*At the time of writing this itinerary Tintagel Castle is operating a COVID-safe one-way system for entry and exit, involving the descent of 140 steep stone steps on departure. If you feel that you would be unable to make this descent safely please advise us at the time of booking so that we can make arrangements for you to be allowed to cross back over the bridge.

    Day 4: Penzance & St. Michael’s Mount

Today we will journey to the west of Cornwall and start our day channelling our inner Pirates with some free time in the market town of Penzance, before making our way to the evocative St. Michael’s Mount, little sister of the much-loved Mont St. Michel. Crowned by a medieval church and castle and with a historic village and harbour at its foot, this rocky island is accessible either by boat or cobbled causeway, depending on the state of the tide.

    St. Michael’s Mount

Together we will discover this captivating place, including the stunning tropical terraced gardens which seem to tumble elegantly down the steep cliff faces from castle ramparts to the rocky shore far below.

Dating back to the 12th century the imposing castle has been home to the St. Aubyn family for centuries and is bursting with treasures of history waiting to be discovered. This afternoon we will immerse ourselves in the past as we stoop through ancient doorways and glimpse the changing faces of a castle that has played peaceful host to monks, witnessed vicious battles, and now serves as the family home that many small aspiring knights and princesses could only dream of.

This evening we will return to St. Ives for dinner at our own leisure.

Day 5: Day at Leisure or optional excursion

Today you are free to enjoy a day at your own pace in beautiful St. Ives, often described as the jewel in Cornwall’s crown. Perhaps you will find a space to relax on the white sands of Porthminster Beach, enjoy some shopping in the cobbled streets lined with independent boutiques, or simply sit back and watch the world go by over a traditional Cornish cream tea (don’t forget that the jam goes on first!).

    Alternatively you may wish to join our optional excursion and discover yet more of this captivating county;

Falmouth & Pendennis Castle - £30 per person

Making our way to Falmouth by private coach we will begin the day with a visit to mighty Pendennis Castle, a fortress constructed by Henry VIII to defend the country from French invasion. Occupying a commanding position on the headland with spectacular views out to sea and across the Carrick Roads estuary to St. Mawes, Pendennis Castle has played a vital role in defending Cornwall from its construction in Tudor times right up until World War II.

    Pendennis Castle

Having soaked in our fill of fascinating history and arresting views, we will be transferred to Falmouth harbour for a pleasant return ferry cruise across the estuary to St. Mawes. Sailing through deep-sided wooded valleys we will pass serenely by historic houses, Tudor castles and the pretty St. Anthony’s lighthouse. Cruises often encounter basking sharks, dolphins, seals and rare sea birds, so it will pay to have our eyes peeled throughout.

This evening we will return to St. Ives and enjoy a farewell dinner together at our hotel, where we can exchange tales of a week well spent.

Day 6: Return to the Channel Islands

After a final hearty Cornish breakfast, we will have a little free time for any last minute souvenir shopping or a final stroll on the beach before being collected for transfer back to Newquay Airport. At 14:35 we will depart direct back to Jersey with Blue Islands and wish each other fond farewells on arrival at 15:35. Passengers travelling on to Guernsey will be accompanied to Jersey departures by their Tour Manager and offered assistance to check in for their 17:30 inter-island flight.
