About Croatia

Squeezed in between central Europe and the Balkans, the land we know now as Croatia was passed between competing kingdoms for millennia, a constant tug-of-war which has resulted in a cultural melting pot of a country, where Roman ruins sit beside Viennese mansions, and Venetian palaces face off Socialist Realist sculpture.

The glittering island-dotted Adriatic coast is undoubtedly the highlight for most visitors, who spend lazy days on white pebble beaches and balmy nights enjoying local seafood at fairy-lit seafront restaurants. This picture-perfect coastline is punctuated regularly by ancient cities, each filled to the brim with unmissable sights and world-class museums.

Day 1: Jersey and Guernsey to Croatia

Clients travelling from Jersey will meet our Tour Manager in the departures hall at Jersey Airport at 05:45 ahead of departure to London Gatwick with British Airways at 07:05.

Clients travelling from Guernsey will fly to London with Aurigny at 07:00. On arrival you will be met in the South Terminal by our Tour Manager before joining your Jersey companions to check-in for our flight together to Dubrovnik, departing at 12:35 with British Airways.

On arrival at 16:30 we will be collected by comfortable private coach for the journey of approximately 30 minutes to our hotel, the 4* Grand Park Hotel, Dubrovnik, where we will have time to unpack, settle in and perhaps take a quick siesta after our long journey, before enjoying our first dinner together as a group.

    Day 2: Dubrovnik & Cavtat

After breakfast at the hotel, we will set out to explore the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage listed old town of Dubrovnik. During a 2 hour guided tour conducted by an English speaking guide we will discover renowned sites including the architecturally imposing Dominican Monastery and 15th century Rector’s Palace. During our relaxing tour of this enchanting city we will learn about a history which dates back to the 13th century as we stroll through gleaming marble-paved squares and along the bustling ‘Stradun’, main artery of the old town and probably the best known sight in Dubrovnik. Lined with shops and cafes, pedestrianised Stradun is the beating heart of the old town, where locals bustle to and fro in the course of their daily business, and holidaymakers linger over coffee and watch the world go by.

    Cavtat

Once we are fully familiarised with our host city, we will board our coach and take the short drive to Cavtat (pronounced tsav-tat), a pretty waterfront town famed for its restaurant-lined promenade, crystal clear waters lapping pebble beaches, and laid-back holiday atmosphere. We will have time to enjoy a bite of lunch and look around independently before embarking on a relaxed yet informative tour of this ancient town, which existed even before its nearby big sister Dubrovnik.

Having explored Cavtat fully, we will return by coach to our hotel in Dubrovnik and have dinner together.

    Day 3: Dubrovnik

Today is at leisure to further explore the Pearl of the Adriatic at your own pace. You may wish to return to the old town, where it’s possible to walk the old fortress walls and take in iconic views of red-tiled roofs atop limestone buildings. Should the towering walls still feel a little too close to the ground, the popular Dubrovnik cable-car connects the city with the top of nearby Srd Hill, and offers breath-taking panoramic views of the walled city and Adriatic ocean beyond.

Back at ground level, happy hours can easily be passed exploring cobbled lanes and alleyways filled with boutiques, galleries and restaurants, and many of the impressive public buildings found within the city are open to visitors.

    Dubrovnik

You may wish to spend some time discovering what lies outside of the old town, enjoying a stroll along the harbour side, a long lazy lunch in a beachfront restaurant or even taking a pleasure boat trip around the picturesque coast line and nearby Islands.

Back at our hotel a spa and wellness centre is available on site, and for a small charge guests can relax by the swimming pool and enjoy access to 2 saunas, a steam room and experience showers. There is also a range of massages and decadent spa treatments available to book in advance.

In the evening we will once again meet in the hotel to dine together as a group and share the stories of our day.

Optional Excursion – Visit to the City of Mostar - £60 per person

Pack your passport and embark on an adventure over the border into Bosnia & Herzegovina and the enchanting and history-soaked city of Mostar. Following a scenic journey of approximately 3 hours, we will arrive in this melting-pot city which lives and breathes centuries of history.

The influence of long Turkish rule is evident in tall slim minarets reaching for the sky, and colourful bustling bazaar, where shoppers can find a wealth of hand-crafted gifts and souvenirs.

    Optional Excursion

The most recognisable view in Mostar is without doubt Stari Most, literally translated as ‘the old bridge’ which crosses high above the Neretva River and connects the two sides of the city. Having stood strong and proud since construction began in 1557 the bridge was totally destroyed in 1993 during the Bosnian war, with the tragic scene beamed across the world on television. Lovingly rebuilt using much of the original stone recovered from the river by divers, a carbon-copy of the original bridge was completed and opened in 2004.

We will undertake a guided tour of Mostar during which we will learn more about the rich tapestry of history and blend of cultures that has shaped this exhilarating city, and then enjoy some time to explore independently, before returning to Dubrovnik.

    Day 4: Dubrovnik to Split

Enjoy breakfast at leisure before checking out of our Dubrovnik Hotel and setting out for our next destination of Split. Croatia’s second largest city is vibrant and atmospheric, a perfect balance of tradition and modernity.

A scenic journey of approximately 3 hours along the picturesque Dalmatian coast will be punctuated by comfort breaks during which we’ll have the opportunity to stretch our legs and buy refreshments.

On arrival in Split we’ll drop off our luggage at the brand new 4* Hotel Cvita, Split and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, to recover from the long journey and get our bearings. Our hotel is situated a 25 minute walk from the charming old town, and on the doorstep of scenic Marjan park, where keen walkers can ascend through thick pine forest to be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the city and ocean beyond.

    Dubrovnik to Split

Back at the hotel, guests will find plenty of inviting spaces to savour, including attractive outdoor terraces and an indoor swimming pool plus wellness centre.

This evening we will once again join together for dinner in our hotel.

    Day 5: Split & Trogir

Refreshed and rejuvenated after a slow-paced day, this morning we will devour a hearty breakfast in our hotel before making our way to Split’s ancient old town. Here we will join our English speaking guide and undertake an extensive tour which includes visits to the incredibly well preserved Roman Cathedral of St Dominus and the extraordinary Diocletian’s Palace; positioned on the harbour side and considered one of the most imposing Roman ruins on earth.

Almost uniquely for such an important structure, the Diocletian Palace is not protected behind glass or within the walls of a museum; rather the 30,000 metre square complex is the beating heart of Split, with numerous shops, cafes and apartments located in its old buildings, and approximately 3,000 people living with the perimeter.

    Split & Trogir

After our splendid morning in Split, we will board our coach and make the 40 minute journey by road to the beautiful and bijou island town of Trogir.

Connected to the mainland and nearby island of Ciovo by bridges, Trogir is a treasure trove of Renaissance and Romanesque architecture. Life here centres around the wide seaside promenade, lined on one side with bars and restaurants, and on the other with glamorous yachts. Once again with the help of an English speaking guide we will delve into the history of this small but perfectly formed place.

A highlight for all visitors to Trogir is undoubtedly the Cathedral of St Lawrence which dominates the landscape with its distinctive red-roofed bell tower.

On our return to Split we will again enjoy dinner at our hotel.

Day 6: Krka National Park & Waterfalls

After spending all of our time so far on the coast, today we will head inland to take in the spectacular natural scenery of Krka National Park.

Extending the full length of the beautiful 73km Krka River, from the mountains of Croatia‘s interior to the Adriatic Sea, the National Park protects this area of natural importance. Wooden pathways snake between lush vegetation and above the rushing river allowing walkers to get close to nature.

    Krka National Park & Waterfalls

As explorers of this magical park we will be rewarded with one of the most famous and dramatic sights in Croatia; a stack of 7 tumbling terraced waterfalls, bubbling and singing through a 200 metre deep gorge and creating a treat for the eyes, ears and soul.

After a relaxing day in the park we will return to Split, and dine together in our hotel.

    Day 7: Markarska

This morning we will check out of the Hotel Cvita after breakfast, and waving a fond farewell to Split we will begin our journey back to Dubrovnik as our trip draws to a close.

Last on our itinerary for the week, but certainly not least, we will break our long drive today with a visit to the pretty seaside town of Makarska. A popular holiday destination, boasting 2,750 hours of sunshine per year, the town of Makarska originally developed around a natural harbour and is now a bustling resort, home to more than 15,000 inhabitants and encompassing a number of smaller villages.

    Markarska

We will have time in Makarska to stroll along the picture perfect harbour side promenade, stop for a leisurely lunch of local seafood, or a refreshing drink, and perhaps pick up some last minute souvenirs of our wonderful holiday.

We will continue to Dubrovnik by coach, arriving back at the 4* Grand Park Hotel, Dubrovnik and enjoying a farewell dinner together with our new friends and our Tour Manager, over which we will be sure to reminisce about a week well spent.

Day 8: Croatia to Jersey and Guernsey

This morning we will have a relaxed breakfast, fuelling ourselves well for the journey home. There may be time for a last swim or stroll around the area before we check out of our hotel at approximately 10:30 and say goodbye to Dubrovnik before being transferred by coach back to the airport.

Departing at 13:40 we arrive in London Gatwick at 15:35. Our Tour Manager will escort both Jersey and Guernsey passengers to the correct check-in areas for British Airways and Aurigny respectively.

Jersey passengers will depart along with our Tour Manager at 17:35, whilst Guernsey passengers will depart at 18:00 and arrive home at 19:30.
