For all clients, your Bontour Tour Manager will assist with check-in at Jersey Airport for your DIRECT Austrian Airlines flight from Jersey to Vienna departing at 12.55 arriving into Vienna at 16.10 local time. Day 1

On arrival in Vienna you will be collected by comfortable coach for transfer of around 1 hour 30 minutes to the family run 4* Hotel Donauhof in the historic town of Emmersdorf. Here by the banks of the Danube you will enjoy a hearty dinner in the hotel and a chance to get to know your fellow travellers, before settling in for a good night’s sleep in your comfortable room.

Day 2: Romantikstraße and St. Wolfgang

Fuel up with breakfast before checking out of the hotel as today promises a busy itinerary dedicated to romancing you so that you simply fall in love with Austria.

The first stop will be a guided visit of Castle Ort, as you get your first introduction to the folklore and nature of this beautiful country. The fairy-tale castle sits proud on a tiny island surrounded by the turquoise waters of Lake Traunsee. Legend has it that it was built by the giant Erla out of love for the Traunseen Mermaid, Blondchen.

After visiting the castle you will set out along only a small part of the Romantikstraße; a 380km-long string of pearls connecting the most scenic Austrian landscapes passing sparkling lakes, mountain panoramas and picture-perfect villages. Sit back and relax as the beauty of the country is brought to you from the comfort of your seat.

Day 2

Shining bright on the banks of the stunning Lake Wolfgangsee, you will arrive into St. Wolfgang, famous for its 14th Century church that forms part of a pilgrimage for many. Your guide will take you on a relaxed walk through the historical and charming market town before you have time at leisure to enjoy lunch – perhaps, if you’re lucky, there will be a free table at the award winning ‘Weiße Rössl’ - Romantik Hotel White Horse Inn.

Ship ahoy! After lunch you will enjoy the lake and mountains from the water and board a 20 minute cruise on Wolfgangsee to St. Gilgen where you will have around 1 hour to relax. Surrounded by spectacular scenery, St. Gilgen offers pretty village idyll coupled with a fashionable flair reflecting Austrian chic at its very best.

A short 30-minute transfer takes you to the charming city of Salzburg where you will check into the centrally located 4* Hotel Europa in central Salzburg (or similar), your home for the rest of the tour. Dinner is once again included this evening at the hotel - your Tour Manager will advise you of the time.

Day 3: Salzburg

After breakfast at the hotel, you will join your guide for a half-day tour of your host city by foot. The pace will be leisurely so you have time to fully admire and appreciate Austria’s fourth largest city, a city rich in history and also famous for being the birthplace of Mozart. The city’s skyline is recognisable by the famous Hohensalzburg Foretress, Central Europe’s most intact fortress and the old town, so rich in history, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site decorated with castles, churches and palaces at every turn. On your tour you will explore the old town, stop to admire the baroque Cathedral, walk along the main street, Getreidegasse, and pass by Mozart’s House. You will also visit the Mirabell Gardens and see the palace that provides a focal point amongst the finely tended and colourful floral displays. Finally, you will get an introduction to the Grosses Festspielhaus (Festival Hall) home to the famous Salzburg Festival each year.

Day 3

In the afternoon you have time to enjoy this compact gem of a city however you choose, your guide will be able to make some suggestions so you can see Salzburg your way.

Today's dinner is not included, and you are spoilt for choice in the city for Austrian and international delights. Many consider Salzburg to be Austria’s culinary capital where the offering goes well beyond the traditional sweet pastry laden cafes and welcoming breweries.

Day 4: The Tyrol

Enjoy a hearty breakfast before a quick 1.5-hour transfer into the Austrian Tyrol: the heart of the Alps. Naturally stunning and culturally rich you’ll find yourself lost in a land of magical folklore, lush valleys, alpine peaks and traditional lederhosen! Today you will start your visits at the famous Römerhofgasse in Kufstein: Austria’s smallest, and many would say prettiest, old town. Your guide will introduce you to and bring to life the upper and lower city where facades are adorned with flowers and frescos and narrow alleys wind around the enchanting fortress town. You will then have time at leisure to find the perfect place for a spot of Tyrolean lunch.

Day 4

Back to the comfort of your coach you will relax for the 30-minute drive to Kramsach and visit the ‘Lustiger Friedhof’. A unique attraction, this is not a real cemetery but a humorous museum of cast iron epitaphs as a result of years of collecting across the Tyrol, Salzburg and Bavaria. The collection brenner pass showcases the traditional art of blacksmithing, and serves as a testimony to the primeval humour of the Alpine people. Your guide will help you to translate the inscriptions and understand the humour. After a day of fresh Alpine air, you will return to your hotel to enjoy a lazy dinner which is included this evening.

Day 5: The Grossglockner High Alpine Road

Yesterday was Austria’s smallest town and today is Austria’s highest mountain; the mighty Grossglockner. After breakfast you will be amazed and humbled as you drive along two of the most impressive routes in the Alps, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. At an altitude of 2,504m, the Alpine Road is 48km long and wows with 36 turns through Austria’s Hohe Tauern National Park dotted with cattle, Edelweiss and the elusive Marmot – the largest squirrel in the world!

However, as you head East, your eyes will soon turn to the majesty of the Grossglockner and its glacier at 3,798m high. You will arrive to the base of the mountain where you will really appreciate the power of nature in this spectacular region.

Day 5

You will have chance to explore some of the area by foot and there will be a lunch stop at Fuschertorl restaurant where you can purchase lunch or drinks should you wish to accompany the views of the Grossglockner.

Continuing your drive over the pass back to Salzburg you’ll find yourself following ancient trails where historical finds prove that this road has been well travelled since 200 B.C.

You will arrive back to your hotel in time for dinner which is included.

Day 6: Day at Leisure

Enjoy a lazy breakfast at the hotel or get up and out to visit some of the city’s attractions in more depth or perhaps just enjoy a promenade in the Mirabell Gardens. Your guide will also be able to give you some ideas of how to make the most of your free time in the city.

Day 6

Optional additional tour: Rural Austria, £59 per person

Should you wish to head out of the city and back to nature, learning more about pastoral life in Austria, we will take you to the beautiful Unterhofalm restaurant set amongst alpine meadows in Filzmoos, at some 1,280 metres.

You set off on a scenic ride through the forests and pastures dotted with cattle and traditional wooden huts of the Hoflam area, popular with hikers. Here, at the foot of the majestic Bischofsmutze Mountain you will visit the beautifully authentic Filzmosser Church which has been attracting pilgrims for many years. From here you will take a leisurely ride by horse and carriage up the mountain to the Unterhofalm restaurant. Lunch is not included but you have free time to enjoy Austrian delicacies served up by innkeepers Gabi and Michael with the peaceful alpine backdrop.

After some local fuel, it’s time to stretch your legs – only should you wish - and enjoy the local nature at its best, up close and personal. From here, you can relax during the short 1 hour transfer back to the big city.

Day 7: Glass Workshop and The Eagle’s Nest, Bavaria

In the morning, after breakfast, it’s a short 30-minute drive to Kuchl via Bischofshofen. Kuchl sits pretty in the Salzach River Valley and is a town of great tradition. It is here where you will learn more about the ancient craft of glassblowing in a workshop where this art is mixed with the modern practices of Monika Riedl. You will discover her unique way of sculpting beautiful glass into one-off glass creations and everyday items.

You will then head to the Königssee Lake where you have time at leisure to enjoy a lunch of your choice with the backdrop of the lake and the impressive Watzmann Mountain.

From here you will have a relaxing 40-minute transfer through the meadows into Bavaria, Germany, and to the infamous Eagle's Nest where a special shuttle bus will take you to the mountain.

Day 7

Entering an opulent brass elevator you will be taken through the heart of the mountain directly to the lion's den. An engineering feat perched on its rocky outcrop, the Kehlsteinhaus this is where Hitler, Himmler and Eva Braun had banquets and entertained foreign diplomats. The Eagle’s Nest remains as it was, undamaged, at the end of the war and today it is a cosy restaurant with 360-degree views across the Alps. You will have a short tour of the attraction on arrival before having time at leisure to explore further.

From here it’s approximately a 1-hour scenic transfer back to the hotel where dinner is again included.
